BSL offers limited non-destructive testing NDT techniques to accurately assess the in-place conditions of historic masonry structures and heritage sites. Non-destructive techniques do not disrupt the materials used in the construction for the archeological sites additionally the historic materials are not destroyed. Currently, the following NDT services are available:
Rebound Hammer Test:
Rebound hammer test is a method used to determine the variation in the uniformity of masonry structures. It can also be used to evaluate the quality of repair works.
Ultrasonic Velocity Testing:
Ultrasonic velocity testing is a method used to determine the durability or repair works relative to the sample and subsequent measurements taken at the test locations. The test can also provide the anisotropy value of angular finishes in the rehabilitation works of high-value architectural artifacts.
In-situ Bond Strength Test:
In-situ bond strength test is employed to assess mortar bond strength. ASTM C-1072 is employed for measurement of masonry bond strength and determination of flexural bond strength. Further tests for as-built conditions engineering properties, and quality controls can be designed as per specific requirements by the client. Such test methods include measurement of in-situ compressive strength, In-Situ Measurements of masonry mortar joint and masonry deformability properties by using flat jack test. Infrared Thermography and Tomographic Imaging services can be arranged by BSL in collaboration with our foreign engineering experts.
